Invest in the key voice that makes this region an advantageous place to do business. The 495/MetroWest Partnership leads the advancement of the 495/MetroWest region as an exceptional location for people, businesses, and communities. Our vision is one in which our region enjoys sustainable economic growth, well-stewarded natural and built resources, and diverse transportation and housing choices. Together, these assets make our region the best place for your business to grow.

The Partnership is the entity that nurtures the core components of our strong regional economy: we are the voice for the region on transportation, water resources, energy issues, housing, and sustainable development. All of these issues are essential for the 495/MetroWest region to remain attractive to a highly-skilled workforce, and to sustain the infrastructure needed by our growing industries.

We are the only entity speaking for the needs of this unique region alone. Our 36 cities and towns share many common traits, strengths, and challenges, but are otherwise divided by jurisdictional boundaries. We speak for our region to federal and state policymakers, with a voice informed by a Board of Directors and other stakeholders balanced among leaders and experts in business, municipal government, higher education, commercial development, environmental protection, workforce development, and transportation.

  • Created the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority and expanded the reach of our regional transit services
  • Fought successfully for the reconfiguration of I-495 and the Massachusetts Turnpike interchange, as well as improvements to the I-495/I-290 interchange expanding its capacity
  • Achieved real improvements to commuter rail service through advocacy, including more frequent service during peak hours, track and signal enhancements, and prolonged span of service
  • Measured and given voice to the region’s unique business community through our annual Employer Survey, which focuses on business outlook, employer concerns, and workforce needs
  • Given voice to region’s needs in funding allocation planning for federal and state transportation dollars
  • Led long-term regional planning efforts, including the 495/MetroWest Development Compact and the Suburban Edge Community Commission, lending cohesive vision to the region

WHAT WE’RE DOING:

  • Leading the charge for our region on the I-90 Allston Multimodal Project, which will remove the existing Allston Viaduct carrying the Massachusetts Turnpike into Boston and will have a substantial impact on roadways, rail, commuters, and businesses in our region for generations to come, particularly during its 8-10 year construction phase
  • Serving as the leading voice for our employers on workforce development needs, as a critical connection among businesses, higher education institutions, workforce boards and career centers, and the state’s planning initiatives
  • Coordinating regional focus on housing issues, as housing costs emerge as a key threat to hiring and workforce needs
  • Publishing community-specific data focused on economic, housing, workforce, educational, and demographic shifts; we are the only entity publishing these detailed data sets for our communities through our annual Strength in Numbers reports
  • Fighting for robust commuter rail and RTA services: more reliable service, better connectivity, First and Last mile services
  • Connecting our stakeholders with policymakers at all levels
